I was told my total cholesterol number was 204. I was advised to take 5-6 fish oil capsules daily and modify my diet. I did both. At the 3 month check up my number went up to 238. They said my good cholesterol number was really good, but the bad number was cause for concern and now they want me to take medicine. Why would the number increase if I followed the directions?

Your elevated total cholesterol level at the 3 month follow-up could reflect how you metabolize cholesterol or your daily cholesterol intake.
