About 6 months ago I got off a low hormone pill. The few months leading up to getting off it I wasn't taking it very diligently so I doubt it was working anyway. I got on the pill at age 17 and I'm now almost 21. I still got my period every month while on the pill. Since I've gotten off it my period has been irregular being late or heavy or light... just all over the place and causing lots of pregnancy scares. When will my period go back to normal? It seems like its been a long time for my periods to still be messed up.

Guide

Hello Girly K,

The pill prevents your body from making the hormones involved in ovulation and menstruation. Generally, when you stop taking the pill, it can take some time for your body to return to normal production of these hormones.

In your case, you were taking the pill irregularly, which probably cause fluctuation or an imbalance in your hormone levels. Couple this with stopping the pill completely, it may take you longer to get to a regular menstrual cycle.

Any concerns should be discussed with your gynecologist.

Regards,

Maryann
