I have always been pretty regular, period starts every 28-29 days. Since the beginning of the year it seems every other month I am a week late, and once starting its really light. I have never been on any kind of birth control or use any kind on contraceptives. Husband and I have been sexually active for about 7 yrs. (not exactly trying but if it happens so be it) I have also been told I have ovarian cysts.
I guess my question in why am I late? could I be regnant? I just want to know what's going on!

Hello Anonymous,
Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for reaching out to us for answers regarding the sudden irregularity in your menstrual cycle.
The menstrual cycle is regulated by a precise balance of four hormones. These include the follicle stimulating hormone, the lutenizing hormone, estrogen and progesterone.
Fluctuation in hormone levels, such as with perimenopause, decreased levels associated with pregnancy and any conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome or PCOS can cause changes in a woman's cycle.
Schedule an appointment with your gynecologist, who is more knowledgeable and can order blood tests to determine the cause of this change.
