Neva, thanks so much for responding to our original poster. However, I'm a little concerned about you. You are terrified of what might be happening, yet you have to wait until you get an insurance problem ironed out? Can you tell us more? Are you sure it will just take a couple weeks until you can see the doctor? Can we help in any way, like finding you a lower-cost or free doctor or clinic? (If so, where do you live?)

I too am having a pulsating pain on the Right about a fingers length from the throat close to ear( I could not pull open the photo). It pulses a pretty sharp pain and then I put my finger on it and press and it is fine. Then a min goes by and does again - several times. It doesn't happen daily, but happens frequently. I dont do much, just deal with it.

The submandibular glands have to do with saliva. Here's one page of information on them and on what could be causing them to be painful or swollen:

http://www.entassociates.com/salivary_glands.htm

Lymph glands often hurt when you have some sort of infection going on. This gland would most often be affected by infections of the head, neck, sinuses, ears, eyes, scalp and pharynx. Do you remember if you were sick in January? Perhaps a respiratory infection or something similar?

Have you ever had your thyroid checked? Do you know if your hormone check also included a check of your thyroid levels?

Samslife, it sounds like you might be dealing with a swollen lymph node, which happens for a variety of reasons. Often an infection will cause a lymph node to be swollen and painful.

Take a look at this graphic illustration of where your lymph nodes around the neck are located. It sounds to me as though the place you are describing is the place they note as the supraclavicular lymph nodes:

http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.uptodate.com/online/content/images/onco_pix/Lymph_nodes_head_and_neck.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.uptodate.com/online/content/image.do%3FimageKey%3Donco_pix/lymph_8.htm%26title%3DLymph%2520nodes%2520head%2520and%2520neck&h=480&w=568&sz=33&tbnid=B4IJZFPTHPtAzM::&tbnh=113&tbnw=134&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dlymph%2Bnodes%2Bneck&usg=__mBsLs7AxAkHaDta91qPk1P9So4Y=&ei=v2fnSeqgE4OItgfUzdDOBQ&sa=X&oi=image_result&resnum=4&ct=image

Is this the area you are having the pain?

And it's just on the one side?

Interestingly, because I've read your other question about the long menstrual period, I'm wondering if the two of these things are linked. The supraclavicular lymph nodes have to do with the thorax and abdomen.

Here's a page from the Mayo Clinic on swollen lymph nodes; do the symptoms they write about sound like yours?

the pain i feel in my neck accoring to that webpage is in the area where it says Submandibular. Thankyou for showing me that i was way off to where I thought it was Now I have no clue what the Sub mandibular is all about though. and I don't have any other symptoms from that other site except pain or a really hard pulse. I also have high blood pressure I was just diagnosed with the same time I started my 5 month long menstraul cycle. I was thinking those two things might somehow be linked but this didn't start till january which is why i just though it was a allergic reaction to somethig at first.

Right I forgot about it since i was more focused on the bleeding issues I have been having. It feel pain like a stabbing but the throbbing that feels like a pulse is really hard and it feels like it swells up and my throat closes at first i thought I was allergic to something but it happens at any time and I dont need to be doing anything or eating anything.the pain is on the side but more towards the front above my collarbone. And my hormones test happened last week but i wont hear back from it till the 23rd.
