Why do i get real sharpe pains in my lower stomach on both sides.

I get real sharp pains during the day and it's in my lower section of my stomach. I was thinking it was just because I get them usually when I get ready to start my period but I've had these pains for about two weeks now and still no period. I know my periods are irregular and I don't get them every month but when I get these pains it usually comes soon after. I am just worried it might have something to do with my ovaries because my grandma passed away from ovarian cancer.
