When I woke up yesterday morning I noticed that everytime I blinked my lower eyelid felt sore on my left eye. It feels as though there's a bruise there but on the inside. Today it feels a little worse. The inside of the eyelid looks a little red but nothing major. What is this?

Anon - It could be a number of things. Abrasions can occur from scratches to the surface of the cornea, ulterations occur from infections or abrasions. Please review the article referenced above for more specific information. Since the injured area is getting larger you should see an eye care specialist for treatment. Until you are able to get care please be careful not to rub your eye as this could make the condition worse. Corneal abrasions and ulcerations are typically treated with antibiotic eye drops or eye ointment and, in some cases, pain medication. Please let us know how you do, and good luck! Pat

Hey I think I am suffering from the same problem. About a week ago, my wife accidently poked my lower eyelid with her finger nail. The very next day I began feeling a discomfort in mylower left eyelid, followed by a lump underneath the skin.. It's been about 5 daysnow and it has gotten bigger!! What is it?? Howcan I treat it? Thanks:)

Anon - While you're in pain it would be best to not apply eyeliner as the movements in applying it, and removing it, will make your situation worse. Could you have had any type of substance on your hand when you rubbed your eyes? How old was the eyeliner you used? Could it possibly be contaminated and have caused an infection? Is the pain confined to your eyelid, or is the pain coming from your eye? Here's a link which provides a lot of information on what can cause eye pain: http://www.emedicinehealth.com/eye_pain/article_em.htm
It sounds like you've been dealing with this for about a week, and that the pain is getting progressively worse. It would be in your best interest to see an eye care specialist and get a professional exam and opinion. Will you let us know what you learn? We wish you the best outcome possible. Pat

I have that pain in my lower eyelid as well and it hurts like really bad!!!! This is how it all started. I was cryin a few dayz ago and i rubbed my eyes to get rid of the tears and applied some eyeliner so that i wouldnt look so terrible. Moments later that pain came in my left eye but it didn't really hurt like how it does now. I thought it was because of the eyeliner but even when i take it off it still hurts very bad maybe even worse!...PLEASE HELP ME!
