Yoga is many things to many people, part fitness, and part meditation and for some it is a complete lifestyle. With our fast paced lives seeming to get even faster with each passing day, yoga has become a necessity for many as it helps to keep us grounded and to let go of our daily stresses. With yoga being so popular the world over, it is no big surprise that new forms are being invented, and in this article we will explore a few of those new options.
AcroYoga
As the name suggests, Acroyoga is a new form of yoga that is a combination of yoga and acrobatics. It blends yoga postures with acrobatic movements, and is said to be one of the more active forms of yoga. It is done in pairs due to some of the postures requiring partners to lift each other into position with one forming the base. This is one form of yoga that it is best to attend with a trusted friend of similar size/strength.
It is also quite an advanced form of yoga so it is probably something that a beginner will need to work up to, unless they already feel they have quite a good level of flexibility and balance.
Anti Gravity Yoga
The name does conjure up images of fakirs levitating, but this form of yoga actually uses a yoga swing to support your body weight and allow movements not possible without the swing. Also known as aerial yoga, it is well suited to people who are suffering back problems as the swing takes a lot of the pressure off the spine during postures.
Anti gravity yoga has proven extremely popular in Australia, to the point that even variations are starting to pop up. Anti gravity fitness, which combines yoga, dance and Pilates with the yoga swing to offer a new form of fitness.
Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is a form of yoga based on the more passive Chinese ‘yin’, with slower postures that are held for longer but not pushed as far. It focuses on releasing tensions from the body, opening up joints and tendons to move more smoothly in normal life. It is well suited to older people looking to maintain mobility, for who regular yoga might be a bit too much of a stretch.
Voga
Last but not least, we have the most unexpected yet also in some ways the most enjoyable if you’re looking for something a little out of the ordinary. Voga is essentially yoga combined with the 80’s vogueing, all done to 80s music. It’s not going to be for everyone and apparently some yoga traditionalists do not think it should even be related to yoga at all, but if you’re looking for a bit of non-serious fun, then why not give it shot?
So there you have it, 4 new yoga trends for 2015. There are definitely more out there and more appearing with each passing month so if you’re feeling like traditional yoga is getting a bit stale, why not try some of these hot new varieties?
