I am 47 years old and received my annual mammogram 2 weeks ago and then received a note in the mail that they had concerns about the result and needed me to come back for a follow up appointment. This is the first time this has ever happened to me and although Breast Cancer does not run in my family I could not help but be a bit worried. Logically, I felt I should not have any thing to worry about but some how I was still worried as you mind has a habit of running away with all the bad things you could find out. Additionally, the mammogram I received was a new digital machine which made me wonder if the improved clarity of the pictures could be the cause the call back. I go to a special Women's Imaging Center which I would highly recommend that women seek out. This place called Solis Benora specializes in Women's imaging, specifically for Breasts. The Mammographer who did my original Mammogram also did my follow up and was so wonderful to help me feel a little less scared. They got me in within 24 hours of my call to book the follow up appointment as well. Also, after my follow up mammogram where they grabbed a few more views of the suspicious area I was able to immediately (same visit) meet the Radiologist who looked over the new views, and did a quick ultrasound of the area on my breast and assured me that it was nothing. I have some what large breasts and he said that the original mammogram showed some thing that was not clear and looked like a mass which was actually a fold of my skin. It was so great to get right back in, and also get to see a radiologist who could provide you the results right away instead of having to wait for the 2nd results. The good news it looks like I will be around for a while longer!
