So after two very intense weeks, the thought of a Girls Night Out is just too irresistible. Especially when it benefits programs devoted to maternal mental health! So after I finish work next Thursday, I am heading out to West Orange, NJ with my daughter and her pals to have a little fun!!
This great evening, from Sassy Shopgirl Events, has it all. Massages, manicures and mini-facials; clothes, make up, DRINKS, and a relaxed but serious attitude toward fundraising. This event promises to donate a percentage of its proceeds to Postpartum Progress Inc., the non-profit associated with Katherine Stone's Postpartum Progress blog... the most widely read PPD blog in the United States... and probably the whole world!
Katherine, who will fly in from Georgia for this fine event, had a specific goal in mind when forming her non-profit - to be able to support other programs and services which help women! She's been blogging for years and now decided she wants to help fund and promote programs she believes in!
In Katherine's own words: "I want to be able to do even more to support women with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. I'd like to be able to raise money via grants (which I cannot do as an individual), as well as continued donations from individuals and organizations, so that I can expand the reach of Postpartum Progress to even more women.
To be clear, my goal is in no way to compete with the wonderful organizations that already exist, but instead to complement their work with my own area of focus -- technology and social media. I will spend my time on peer support that reaches and educates women directly through various internet platforms, while continuing to support the work of others. One of my objectives is to identify and implement ways of reaching underserved populations who do not currently have access to the latest technology."
I hear that the ultimate Jersey girl former NJ First Lady Mary Jo Codey, whose Speak Up When You're Down Campaign galvanized a nation, will be there along with some of the Real Housewives of NJ... and possible representation from the Real Housewives of Orange County...That's right... from the shows of the same name! Who knows what other fun surprises await.
The first 100 to arrive will receive a gift bag, full of pampering treats and gift certificates! With absolutely no guilt, you can shop your heart (and pocketbook) out to help such a worthy cause as over 40 new and unique designers showcase their spring fashions! Tickets are $35 and include a two hour open bar!and can be purchased online or at the door if you haven't done so already.
