Causes of plantar fasciitis symptoms are hard to individually pinpoint. Are you feeling this pain because of that extra 10 pounds? Are the neighborhood walks you’re taking too long for good health? Maybe it’s all those years of wearing high heels. Whatever the causes, the heel pain that comes with plantar fasciitis symptoms may be felt by any one of any age. Plantar fasciitis is more commonly known as heel spurs, a calcium deposit on the bone that causes extreme pain whenever you step. Plantar fasciitis is caused by wear and tear in your leg tendons. If you want to relieve the pain, you can’t simply focus on your heels.
The tendons and ligaments that run through the calves are directly connected to the heels. You can’t take a single step without your calves, right? Experts advise calf stretches as a way to both relieve and prevent the heel pain of plantar fasciitis symptoms. High heeled shoes are especially bad for feet because they shorten your heel stride, literally shrinking the tendons within the calves. Legs that are used to ending in high heels end up becoming damaged once the feet are on level ground again.

If you’ve got a rolling pin, you can give yourself an effective calf massage. Hold a muscle roller (or a similar device) in either hand and sit down. Extend your leg in front of you and rest your foot on another chair or a low table. Holding the roller perpendicular to the back of the leg, starting at the crook of the back of the knee and rolling down toward the ankle. Roll the tool back upward. Repeat both motions several times to massage calves and relax muscle tension that helps cause heel pain.
