Here is a fun, educational, online health quiz from Real Simple magazine. It takes about 10 minutes (if you read and don't skim). Take it and see how well you do!
The answer that I was most baffled by was:
You need 4-5 cups of fruits & veggies each day.
I was thinking "serving sizes", instead of cups. But, this is much more helpful to think in terms of measuring sizes.
How do you get 4-5 cups of fruits & veggies in your diet...I would love to hear your suggestions!
So far, I'm at about 3 cups a day:
Breakfast: blueberries or bananas in high fiber pancakes or cereal
Lunch: sliced apple
Dinner: side of veggies
I thought I was doing good! How do you get an additional 1-2 cups of fruits & veggies into your everyday meals?
Here are some suggestions from Real Simple:
- bell peppers or mushrooms in omelet
- cup of OJ with breakfast or afternoon snack
- snack on cherry tomatoes or carrots dipped in hummus
- next time you go out to eat, order two sides of vegetables instead of one
