Today is the Great American Smokeout, a day when people are encouraged to try to give it up for a day -- so that maybe they'll find it easier to quit completely. Are you quitting for the day? How long have you smoked? Are
you hoping to quit for good? How many times have you tried?
In recent years, both the medical community and advertising campaigns have made the point that it takes a lot of work -- and often, several attempts -- to quit smoking, due to the tenacity of nicotine's hold on the body. There are now medicines, in addition to patches and gums, that help people quit. Are you using any of those? Do you think they will help?
Quitting for 24 hours is huge. It's an accomplishment in and of itself. If you're trying to quit today, well done!!! Good work!! If you're trying to make it permanent, hang in there, and know that millions of people understand how hard it is and are on your side.
Tell us about your experience, and about your day. And take care.
