Candace recalls which doctors specialize in women's hair loss and explains how they can be located.

Candace:
A dermatologist is probably the go to person for women’s hair loss. They will deal with conditions of the scalp that could also cause it. They will also do the differential diagnosis and ask what are you putting into your body that could be causing this; what has happened. They will do the entire history that needs to be done. Caveat on that though is you need to make sure that it’s a derm that really understands hair loss and diseases of the scalp. The biggest problem that I found when I interviewed a lot of women for the book is, many physicians still don’t have women’s hair loss on their radar.

When you call a dermatologist’s office that should be the question that you ask, you should ask, “Is there anyone in your practice who specializes in hair loss and treats women with hair loss?”

You can also ask your salon stylist. When you are at the salon say, “You know I really realize that my hair is thinning, do you know of anybody that could help me?” The biggest problem with hair loss is it’s still a wonderful outlet for scam artists and people who are willing to take your money. So you really have to do the research, do the footwork, and just keep advocating for yourself and if your doctor isn’t giving you the right answers to your questions, you may have to find other doctors and you just keep pounding the doorways.
