Wellness Coach Deborah Kesten explains if wellness coaching can help a woman to stop overeating.

Deborah Kesten:
Coaching can help anybody, a woman stop overeating and minimize it, and again, by transforming her relationship to food. It is not about, just kind of, I don’t know, behavior modification techniques. You know, you always hear, “When you’re feeling a craving, walk around the block.” That’s called cognitive behavioral therapy and it’s a technique of replacing one behavior with another.

I am suggesting more than that. Coaching is really working with a person, getting into a dance with a person, and so you are really hearing all the levels and the history and the many dimensions that go on in a woman’s life, very often around food and eating, through childhood to where he or she is as a person now and as an adult with a family, grandparent, mother, wherever a woman is, and then working with that person to find out where specifically she is grappling with food issues. And, you know, in America it’s almost impossible not to grapple with food issues because, in my opinion, based on the research we have done, it’s impossible to eat normally because normal eating in this country, and healthfully, because normal, healthy eating has really become very imbalanced and a huge challenge for most of us.
