Male infertility specialist Dr. Bastuba discusses if drinking alcohol affects sperm count and a man's fertility.

Dr. Bastuba: From the standpoint of alcohol intake, I would see it somewhat like cigarettes in the sense that studies vary on its overall importance, but it’s a toxin and so you have to take that in consideration when you are thinking about it.

What I would say is that if you had a glass of wine three or four nights a week, that’s going to have a lot less impact than having four glasses of wine at once because the toxin level is going to be higher in the blood at that particular period of time.

So in general, moderation in everything; I try to be reasonable with males, not asking them to completely change their life, that we just sort of modify things, try to tone it down so that they can still go about things basically as normal, but trying to modify those potential influences.
