National Infertility Awareness Week 2010

National Infertility Awareness Week (NIAW) is a movement to raise awareness about the disease of infertility. More than 7.3 million American have infertility: it affects women and men equally. Secondary infertility is also on the rise.

The National Infertility Association launched NIAW approximately 20 years ago, engaging others in the infertility community-- including fertility doctors, fertility clinics, pharmaceutical companies, and patients -- to help bring infertility to the forefront of discussion, and to educate and inform.

During NIAW, which this year will be from April 24-May 1, FertilityAuthority is dispelling infertility myths to enlighten all women and men of reproductive age. Each day this week, a fertility doctor offers up one myth and we’re countering it with the fertility fact.

For example: Fertility Myth #1: If You Feel Young and Have Regular Periods, You're Still Fertile.

FertilityAuthority is also sponsoring a NIAW giveaway. Tell us the myths you’ve heard, you’ve lived, or truths you wish you’d known and you’ll be entered to win one of two fabulous prizes. Post your myth and enter the giveaway here.

And this year, in addition to its Seven Things You Can Do in Seven Days movement, RESOLVE has an exciting new NIAW initiative underway. Project IF, a collaboration between RESOLVE and Stirrup Queen Melissa Ford, asks bloggers to explore a “What If…” from a list of topics they provide – how infertility impacts relationships, your self-esteem, emotional health, finances, and future plans. All blog posts will be considered for the Best Blog award, presented at RESOLVE’s annual Night of Hope gala.
