Dr. Maoshing Ni shares how women can achieve a healthy menopause and second spring by using the secrets of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Dr. Mao:
A woman can achieve wellness, health, vitality during the menopause. With traditional Chinese medicine, we use acupuncture to stimulate a restoration of normal functions. So it is a rejuvenation process. The ovaries, the uterus can be toned and supported in their healthy functioning. So naturally the production of hormones will begin to be restored. At the same time by using that, there is a consumer version of that, which is people can learn how to use acupressure to stimulate the same points that we use with needles to stimulate those points. So that is one method.

Two: herbs. There are many different herbs that women can benefit from. Probably the most commonly known herb is dong quai, which is Angelica sinensis, which is the Latin name for this herb. So this particular herb dong quai is very good to help. It does not have estrogen in it but what it does is it helps again the ovaries and the uterus to work better. That is really the purpose. The purpose is not replacement. You see the idea in the West is, “Oh, you are running out of hormones. That’s why you have all these symptoms. Why do not we just give you some?" Well, we saw the problem with that is that all these women who are taking a combination of estrogen and progesterone and they saw their risk of cancer, heart disease and so forth rise as opposed to falling. So that was an alarming sort of result out of the women’s initiative study. So instead of seeking to replace what your body wisely knows what it can do. We are helping your body restore so that it gets back to its optimal function.

Other things include meditation practices, mind-body exercise like Tai Chi, Chi Gong for example. Diet, let us look at the diet. Let us see where we can get some of these natural plants source estrogen to help stimulate. So there are a lot of different things that I feel very excited for women that they do not have to be a victim. They can take charge and overcome this menopause which is so negatively associated with aging, decline, depression and instead grab the bull by the horn and claim your second spring.
