Dealing with disruptive behavior in children?
I'm Dr. Connie Mariano, Chief Clinical Officer with EmpowHER, with what you need to know about parenting.
A comprehensive study out of London focused on a parenting intervention program for kids with disruptive behavior.
Disruptive behavior was defined as aggression, non-compliance, and general defiance.
Researchers found that parenting characterized as supportive, consistent, and responsive reduced disruptive behavior. Effective strategies include parents understanding that they need to take care of themselves too. Express feelings and remember what it is like to be a kid, focus on play time and listening, avoiding labels and setting boundaries, and coping with stress.
A similar study was done in Australia called, the "Triple P" program for Positive Parenting Practices. You can find more information on that online.
