Reva provides advice for women suffering from postpartum depression (PPD).
Reva:
What I have learned is that definitely support groups and WarmLines in your area. There is like Postpartum Support International which I believe on their website can direct you to resources locally, and I think it’s helped a lot just hearing other women who have been through the experience to kind of reassure me that they found treatment, and they found help, and their lives returned to normal, and that kind of has given me a lot of hope.
I would say, definitely try to find a trained professional. A lot of the times if you are seeking therapy or counseling or treatment, out of desperation you put all of this trust in this someone’s hands. You basically put your life into someone’s hands, and if that person consents to treating you out of their scope of expertise it can backfire.
So I would say, depend and rely on the resources that are available through other women who have suffered from postpartum depression because they would know more or less who the people are that you can trust and that are looking out for your best interest.
I am Reva, and I am hoping that by telling my story that I can help you or a loved one heal quicker.
