Dr. Szmuc explains why Banner Desert Medical Center is one of the Nation's leading centers for multiple births and high risk pregnancies. He also discusses Banner Desert Medical Center's classification as a Level III Perinatal Center.

Dr. Szmuc:
Well people come here because of the unit, the high-risk unit, the neonatal ICU, the antepartum unit and the physicians and nurses that are here. They do a fantastic job and they have tremendous amount of experience dealing with these types of problems.

Here at Banner Desert we have a full complement of perinatologists and neonatologists here in the hospital every day. We have a tremendous NICU with doctor-staff day and night.

We have a large antepartum unit that patients can stay for days to weeks if need be, to enhance the pregnancy outcomes. We have a highly trained team of nurses and anesthesiologists.

Our anesthesiologists are here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to address any emergent need as it becomes apparent. We have a great facility with adequate rooms, adequate operating rooms in labor and delivery where there’s never an issue of overcrowding.

It is important that we have state certification that we are able to care for any patient and any problem that comes into the unit. We have all the existing facilities. We have all the subspecialists here that can take care of these patients at a moment’s notice.
