Dr. Garrett K. Lam
Dr. Garrett K. Lam is board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine. He received his MD from the University of Rochester, completed his residency training at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, then went to the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill for his fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine. While there, he was trained on various in-utero procedures such as fetal blood sampling and intrauterine transfusion, shunt placements for bladder outlet obstruction, cord coagulation for parasitic twin gestations and participated as obstetrical surgeon or primary assistant for their pilot series of in-utero repair of fetal myelomeningocele. He has also traveled to Europe to attend the Eurofetus Consortium's annual conferences on twin-twin transfusion, and recently returned from a training session on laser photocoagulation for treatment of twin-twin transfusion with doctors in both Belgium and the Netherlands.
Dr. Lam is a member of the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine, International Society for Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy, International Fetal Medicine and Surgery Society, and is a Steering Committee member for the North American Fetal Therapy Network. Locally, he serves as Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Banner Good Samaritan and is an assistant program director for the Ob/Gyn residency program. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ob/Gyn for the University of Arizona School of Medicine, as well as Midwestern University School of Medicine. He was recently presented with the Department award for Outstanding Teaching Member of the Faculty.
In addition to his practice in maternal fetal medicine, he is involved in multiple research projects, serving as primary investigator for four current local and national studies. He is published in multiple national and international medical journals, and has contributed chapters to five different textbooks. His primary areas of research are in the fields of preeclampsia and fetal therapy.
Outside of his professional life, he is devoted to spending as much time as possible with his wife and two boys, but will rarely turn down a round of golf with good friends.
