Dr. LeBlang introduces herself and explains the Magnetic Resonance (MR) guided Focused Ultrasound procedure for uterine fibroids.
Dr. LeBlang:
My name is Dr. Suzanne LeBlang. I am a neuroradiologist specializing in the head and neck on MRI images, and I also perform MR guided Focused Ultrasound procedures.
The MR guided Focused Ultrasound procedure is a non-invasive procedure, meaning there’s no cutting of the skin, no general anesthesia necessary. The MR portion stands for MRI imaging. So the MRI imaging is the best way we have of looking at the inside of the body and the anatomy of what your fibroids look like in the pelvis.
The focused ultrasound part, which is the FUS part of MRgFUS, stands for Focused Ultrasound, and that’s where we take a normal ultrasound beam and guide it into the fibroid to generate enough heat inside the fibroid to kill the tumor.
About Dr. LeBlang, M.D.:
Dr. Suzanne LeBlang, M.D., specializes in MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) applications. She is an American trained and Board Certified radiologist with an added certification in neuroradiology. Dr. LeBlang performed the first FDA-approved MRgFUS (Magnetic Resonance guided Focused Ultrasound) case in the U.S., the only non-invasive procedure for the treatment of uterine fibroids, and has, as a single operator, done the most procedures in the country to date. She has extensive experience in treating fibroids including working with very complex fibroid cases.
