I live in a rural area, and there is a water provider in this county that serves a quarter of the population of the county with polluted water, containing fecal coliform bacteria (people poop from septic tanks and chicken and cow manure from nearby rendering plants, TTHM, HAAS, TCR, SWTR, and Chlorine (from the chicken plant) according to the state and federal citations and test analysis, yet the Bush Administration refuses to enforce the requirement that they notify the public or their customers or take corrective action, or require them to cleanup the contaminants or shut down, because the operators of the system are loyal Republicans. I have obtained the violation reports and try to get the local congressman to look at them and he refuses to, and his assistant says he is too busy. I gave up trying to even get an appointment to discuss the situation after five letters and emails and more phone calls. The local newspaper has NO letters to the editor section and will not write articles critical of local officials. The ministerial society will not allow discussion of "political" or "health" issues in their forum attended by pastors from churches in the affected area. The FBI will not investigate unless they get a complaint from the state agency or people who drink the water and have proof that their health has been negatively affected.

So YES, it is a problem. It is enough to make me tune out and forget and and unwind / relay by playing this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAuBLTrmb4Y.
