Keeping a food journal makes a difference because it instills a sense of accountability, provides evidence of what works and what doesn't, and helps you track your progress - or regression.

I've kept a food journal...several times, lol! I think I get out of the habit of writing everything down because I'm so busy that I don't allow myself enough "me" time. I had a food journal, a daily planner and a running journal. That made too many things to manage, so I started using my daily planner to record everything.

There are so many food journals available, these days. You just have to find one you like. One of my first journals was a small, plain leather notebook of unlined paper that fit nicely in my bag so that I could record things on the fly. I've tried a journal that has been organized to record intake of foods and fluids, even exercise and calories burned. I was trying to lose weight while training for a marathon, which I found very difficult to do because of the nutritional regimen that I have to maintain for optimal physical performance and muscle recovery.
