Flu is highly contagious and kills 12,000 to 56,000 people every year, including 180 children last year. While Shingles are horrible and can have very serious side effects, including death, it does not have the potential to wipe out a generation like the flu does. One person with the flu can expose hundreds of other people so if even one person does not get the flu because they got their flu shot it can save many people from suffering from the flu, especially children and the elderly.
