Like you, I cannot imagine what would possess a mother to murder her own child, while realizing that postpartum depression is a very real condition that has been at the root of other high profile cases. Whether this is another case of PPD, who knows.
However, it seems that Casey Anthony had some sort of history that either her parents are in denial about or that was ignored. Just my opinion, based on what little I could glean from her parents' interview with Larry King a few months back.
This story is heart breaking, and the statistics horrifying.
