This blog helped me so much I wanted to add my experience for others. I had a bulbous, protruding venous lake on my lower lip. Several years ago a dermatologist said it could be removed by cutting it out but I didn't want the possibility of a twisted scar. Then I read here of the positive experiences people had with the correct laser treatment. Luckily, I found a doctor who seemed to have all the latest lasers and specialized in removing all kinds of unsightly skin problems. Over the phone I was told he would be using his Cutera CoolGlide laser.

Here's the thing I wanted to share. When he took one look at my lip he said my venous lake was so big he recommended an alternative treatment to the laser. He said in my case an older tool would be more effective than the newer one. He said cauterizing the vessel with an electric cautery tool would work best. The cautery would go deeper and "dry up" the vessel in one treatment, whereas the laser would take several in my case because of the size and depth of my venous lake. Imagine half a green pea sitting on my lip, or just a little smaller.

So, he numbed my lip with a tiny needle of lidocaine. Next, I could smell the burning smell as he cauterized my vessel with the electric needle but I could not feel a single thing. When he was done I had a little scab and some swelling, but I could see the venous lake was completely gone! Yay--magic! My lip looks normal again and I am SO happy. I had it done yesterday, and my lip really isn't even sore today.
