Hi, Anon. Welcome to EmpowHer. I'm really glad you found us, and let's see what we can figure out.

First of all, I'm so sorry you've gone through all this. Those maids! OMG! It's never fun to be in another country and need one of our prescriptions. I'm sure it caused you a huge amount of stress and frustration (especially during the time you were trying to enjoy yourself).

Second, Alesse and Lessina ARE the same medicine, so no doubts there. They are simply two different brand names for the same drug formulation:

So let's look at the dates. I'm a little confused about some of the time frame. Can you correct this where I'm wrong?

End of April: Started Alesse
Fourth week in May (so, like, May 25?) period started
Mid June: missed two pills, switched to Lessina
Around June 15: period came (you kept taking the "sugar" pills, right?
Around June 23: 8-day period ended
Got home when?
Re-started Alesse when?
And then had sex what dates?
And July 12 would have been 28 days since your last cycle began, so you're a few days late?

My question is this. Clearly you didn't get pregnant during the time when you had missed two pills, because you had a period after that. That was the 8-day period. Were you home when that period ended? And then you started the Alesse right away?

One thing that might have affected things is this: When you miss two pills, you are actually supposed to take two pills for two days in a row (in other words, four pills in two days). And then use backup birth control for 7 days after that. That's the only time when you're really vulnerable to a pregnancy.

Honestly, I think that your cycle just got screwed up from two things: the missed pills, and then the travel and stress. Because I don't see any unprotected sex between the end of the period and the start of the new Alesse, right?

If I were you I would call my doctor's office and get her/him in on this latest chapter. Not because you might be pregnant, but because you need to know the best time to start your new packet of pills. Do they just want you to wait until a period comes, or do they want you to go ahead and start, or do they want to see you to do an office pregnancy test just to be sure? Either way, it would be good for them to know that you're in a bit of a hormonally induced puzzle and you need them to help you know what to do.

Please come back and update us, and if there's more we can do for you, please don't hesitate to write back.
