To answer your question, it is possible that you can become pregnant from pre-ejaculate, but not likely from your description if there was no penetration (he had his penis on the outside of your vagina, not inside). Getting pregnant depends on what part of your cycle you had unprotected genital-to-genital contact, so knowing when your period starts is good to start putting on a calendar.
oh--and most of the time, there is pre-ejaculate fluid on the tip of the penis when it is erect, whether or not you can see it.
Please let us know if you need any more information. We can also talk with you about birth control options (since you are sexually active, you should look into using condoms), and possibly hormonal-contraception like the pill.
