If you've been taking pills for a while, then you may not actually be ovulating, just like you don't actually menstruate (your "period", when you are taking hormonal contraceptives, is from the withdrawal of the hormones. When you are not taking birth control, and have a period, then the bleeding is from the surge of hormones, and is a result of ovulation).

Birth control pills work in many ways, one of those is to suppress ovulation. If an egg is released, then the birth control pills work to make the uterus less inhabitable.

What brand of pills do you use?
