That is a tricky situation, as antibiotics alone can cause the hormones in your birth control pill to be less effective. Did your doctor or pharmacist tell you to use alternative form of birth control (condoms) while taking your antibiotics?

Also, the pull-out or withdrawal method, when used alone, is not very reliable form of birth control. When used while taking your birth control, can be a great "extra" precaution (if it does not interfere).

You are right--missing the first week of pills is said to be the "worst week", as you have been hormone-free for the previous 7 days (the "hormone-free" pills during your "period"), and then have added another 7 days to that of no hormones. Your body has essentially assumed you have stopped taking the synthetic hormones, and has started its own cycle of producing hormones.

To directly answer your question about ovulation
Your body (without the pill) is constantly preparing itself to release hormones that "signal" the processes of: maturing an egg, releasing the egg (ovulation), creating a welcoming environment for sperm to fertilize the egg, etc. It would be assumed that your body would be in the process of "maturing an egg", and not be ovulating at this time, but women do become pregnant at times when they did not expect to be fertile...anything is possible, really. With that said, we can't tell you your possibility of being pregnant, but there is a chance of pregnancy with unprotected sex after 14 days of being hormone-free from pills.

If you miss 3 or more pills, I believe the instructions say to throw out that pack and start another one on Sunday (for Sunday starters)...is that correct? (Please follow the directions on your pill pack, as every prescription is slightly different).

Here are a few suggestions for you:
1. Since you had unprotected sex yesterday, and if you do not want to be pregnant, you can go to the pharmacy (if you are 18 years of age or older) and use Plan B (emergency contraception).
2. If you do not want to use Plan B, or are OK being pregnant, you can call your doctor Monday morning and ask their suggestion.

I hope this information helps!
