Every form of birth control except abstinence does have a failure rate, even if it's very small. It's absolutely possible to get pregnant on the patch, just as its possible to get pregnant on the pill, or with a condom that breaks, and so on.
Are these symptoms out of the ordinary for you? You mention that they could be PMS, but I would ask if you normally have such PMS symptoms or if this time there's a lot of difference?
If these symptoms are out of the ordinary for you and your period doesn't come in a few days, I'd start with a home pregnancy test. Most of them will detect the pregnancy hormone when you're 1-5 days late.
But if you tend to be somewhat irregular, or if you have had these symptoms before as PMS, I might wait longer before spending the money on an HPT.
I know the waiting can make you crazy, can't it? But it's just a little too soon to tell right now. Will you come back and update us?
