The home pregnancy tests are 99% effective at detecting the pregnancy hormones once you have missed your period.
I think waiting until October (since that is 4 weeks away) is not necessary, as you will know if you have a period by then...or you would let them know you've had unprotected sex and are 5-6 weeks late for a period..they would most likely have you be tested for pregnancy.
You may choose to do another HPT if your period has not shown up in the next 5 days, and you can always make a quick call to your doctor if your period is later than a few weeks with a negative HPT.
I hope you will be talking with your doctor about hormonal contraceptive options?!
