The experiences of the women reporting their symptoms is terrible and often the doctor will not fully discuss the risks and benefits of the surgery, and the patients will not inquire. These procedures are often successful but like all surgeries and all implants placed in the body, complications can occur. The recent updated FDA bulletin from July 2011 highlights complications that can occur. The public awareness the FDA raises is paramount, but the FDA omits the reams of data and studies demonstrating the successes and durabilitynofnthese procedures. The debate on this is evolving , but what is clear, is that these procedures need to bee performed by those highly skilled. The need for better surgery and beter technology is because many traditional prolapse repairs themselves high a high failure rate and themselves can cause similar complications related to urination, BMs and pain with sex.
