I was ran over by two cars when I was sixteen and my L5 vertabrae was crushed along with so many other injuries, I was told by all my docs that I would never walk again and would be confined to a wheelchair. I looked at my doc a said Fyou I am going to walk and run. I had a major limp the rest of my life but was able to do both. The doc that did my back, did a spinal fusion from my ribs to my hip bone. That was the only way to stabalize my spine at that time. I am now 46 and worked manual labor jobs, and performed a lot of work on auto's and pretty much did whatever I wanted despite all the injuries I sustained. Unfortunately because of the way I walked and everything I put my body through my whole back started hurting when I was about 40 and progressed to the point I couldn't move hardly at all. Pain was well above a 10, NOTHING helped. I went to many docs and all told me there was nothing that could be done to give me any relief and I would be on meds the rest of my life. I asked my pain management doc to send me to therapy after I had a bad fall and shattered my femor(hip). First time no relief so I requested therapy again only this time I just happened to choose one that did ASTYM. Finally I found relief but after having all that scar tissue in my back for 7 years it took many more treatments than they recommend. But I was finally able to start living again. One key that I found that helped and part of why it took so long is because you must do exercise on the treated muscles for it to work and speed the recovery, you must retrain the muscles. I wasn't told that when I first went for therapy and my second round of ASTYM I was doing research on it and came across the actual treatment studies and found out that I was suppose to exercise which none of the terapist had told me. When I started exercising after the treatment the scar tissue stopped reaccurring. I forgot to mention that part. Even though they were doing the treament the scar tissue would return. Also mine was so bad I literally asked them to do it harder and that speeded the process up. I know you all think it's painful but to me that was nothing compared to having my spine crushed, or the pain I was in. The harder the better for me, but I've lived with pain all my life with no meds so not all can endure what I can pain wise. But if you can take it the harder the better and exceise. ASTYM gave me my life back.
