Michael Jackson and his family have been under intense scrutiny for years -- some would even argue that it was Jackson's sensitivity to this scrutiny that motivated him to make some of the choices that he did. Yeah -- life was an apparent circus and some were several steps removed from reality, but Paris's heartfelt reaction to her father's death seemed very real and put a human face on the so-called freak show that had become Jackson's life. In my opinion, grieving families should be given a little room in how they want to express that grief -- whether it's openly or in private. Had she stood up stoicly and uttered an unemotional good-bye, would people's reactions have been the same? Was it exploitation? I dunno. Is airing a funeral bookended by advertisements and selling ads around continuous coverage exploitive? Maybe the microscope needs to be turned on someone else.
