You are safest having sex after ovulation, but the problem is pinpointing the ovulation. And since sperm can live 72 hours or more, and an egg can live between 24-48 hours, you have to allow extra days on each side of ovulation to avoid pregnancy. So yes, there's still a possibility of pregnancy if you have unprotected sex in that fourth stage of your cycle. It is less likely, but possible.

What sort of pain are you talking about? Can you be more specific? Is it inside you (like it might be coming from your uterus or ovaries) or more outside on your genital area? Is it constant or did it go away? Is it a sharp pain or dull?
