Hi, Anon,

When you are on birth control pills, the hormones in them actually stop you from ovulating, which is what stops you from getting pregnant. The danger in missing two or three of them is that your body can decide to go ahead and ovulate that month. You can't really tell whether it does or not.

When a woman is NOT on birth control pills, she can tell much more easily when she ovulates. There are changes in cervical mucus (it goes from cloudy/sticky to clear/runny like egg whites) and a tiny rise in body temperature. But you have to learn to read your body's signals and chart it for a few months before you can reliably figure it out.

Does that help? In short, there's really no way to tell, when you're on the pill and you miss a couple, whether you ovulated or not. You just have to wait until around the time of a missed period, and take a home pregnancy test to be sure.
