Medication can throw off hormonal contraception, so that could be a possible reason.
Women taking hormonal contraception can have something called "breakthrough bleeding", which is basically bleeding in between periods. Breakthrough bleeding is usually different from a period (shorter in length and not as heavy)...is this what you are experiencing?
