No doubt, pain intensity scales seem arbitrary and subjective, but your doctor knows to take these facotrs into account, knowing it is a relative thing. 10/10 pain is often qualified by asking what is the worst pain that you have previously experienced - like childbirth. 10/10 in a female may be quite different to that of a male whose worst pain was a toothache.
