Azithromycin sounds like it is a strong antibiotic, and from my understanding of antibiotics...they do interfere with hormonal contraceptives (the pill, for instance), so it may not be out of the question that it could interfere with the hormones in your body that occur naturally (the pill has synthetic hormones, similar to your body's).
The drug information does not claim to have any side effects on the menstrual cycle, but I just would not rule it out. And, your late period could be from the medication, or from the recent illness/bacterial infection that led to your medicine use.
