Alaska_grown,

Welcome to EmpowHer. I'm so glad you wrote.

Birth control pills are tricky things sometimes. They contain hormones, which basically take over for our body's hormones in terms of ovulation, menstruation and so on. If those hormones are not exactly the right prescription for us, we can experience a variety of side effects, including what you have been dealing with, which is excess bleeding.

How long ago did you start the new prescription?

How often would you say you are experiencing this bad cramps? Every day? Several times a day?

What birth control pill were you on before, and what are you on now?

Heavier than usual bleeding is called menorrhagia, and it's usually the result of a hormonal imbalance. Did your doctor tell you to call back or return if the bleeding didn't stop soon?
