I have not read that potassium alone can help with the symptoms of IBS, or help make your stools "softer". What I do know about IBS is that each person's diet is unique in how it effects their symptoms, and there are relavatively few dietary suggestions that work across the board for everyone. These "general" diet tips include consuming more soluble fiber, avoiding known gas-producing foods, avoiding caffeine and alcohol, and keeping a food diary along with your symptoms so you can learn how your specific diet effects your symptoms.

If you have a source that you can provide, regarding the potassium helping with IBS, can you send us the link and we can look into it further?

Have you been diagnosed with IBS, or do you have IBS-type symptoms without a diagnosis? How is your IBS being treated?
