Based on your description-- it definitely sounds like PR. I'm sure that since your doctor got a good look at it, his diagnosis was accurate. If it itches, your doctor may give you an oral antihistamine or an ointment to put on the rash. PR usually goes away on its own but it can take a few weeks before it does.
Tanning is not a good idea when you have any type of rash, the best thing to do it to leave it alone and your dermatologist will determine if you need medication.
