Thank you for your question and yes, this is very common. This happens to me probably every 3-4 months. I even get cramping feelings and think I am starting early...then nothing until 1 or 2 weeks. Good news that usually when I get this, my cramps and breasts don't hurt so much when my period finally comes. Thats always a happy feeling!
I wouldn't be too concerned about pregnancy until you actually miss your period. Just to mention, are you on birth control? This may help being sexually active (although careful) but to be double protected. This may be something you want to look into.
