Thank you for your question! When starting a new pack of any birth control pill, you should be protected by an alternative method for at least a week. Your chances of getting pregnant are still less than that of a woman who had unprotected sex because you were still partially protected by the pill-- however, no guarantees. You can continue to take your mini pills and if you miss a period buy a home pregnancy test.
As far as your question about being able to go back to combined pills-- It is likely that being overweight and your diet are the main culprits for the high blood pressure. If you are making it a point to lose weight and eat healthier then in the future your doctor can and may decide to try combination pills with you again while monitoring your BP.
