Guide (reply to Anonymous)

Hello Anonymous,

The morning after pill, like all emergency contraceptives, prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation. This lasts for one menstrual cycle.

If you took the pill before you ovulated, you were still protected when you had intercourse with your husband.

An emergency contraceptive can cause changes in the menstrual cycle. The next period could start earlier or later than expected. Flow can be lighter or heavier than normal.

If you do not have any bleeding within three weeks of taking the pill, test for pregnancy.

Regards,
Maryann
