I have never heard of a doctor telling a women to get pregnant in order to cease pain. Do you trust your doctor, and have you asked for a second opinion?

The question between conceiving using the two methods you asked about, IVF versus IUI is not as simple as it sounds. There are specific reasons that a woman and her doctor would choose IVF versus IUI, depending on individual factors including age, reasons for infertility, insurance coverage/out-of-pocket costs, medical conditions, partner's fertility, etc. These are all specific factors that are so specific and unique to each woman, that an online community can not tell you what is right for you; you can gather information from women who have experienced each fertility "technology" to learn more about each option.

I am not sure what you know about each option, what your doctor has recommended, if your health insurance covers either choice, and if you know there are other choices besides "only" IUI and IVF. There are actually different types within these broader terms, and there is a cost difference too.

You can learn more about the basics of each type of fertility "technology" in a great summary at: American Pregnancy, scroll down to title, "Infertility and Reproductive Technologies".

You can also join the EmpowHER group: Fertility and Infertility Group to read about other women's stories, and search using the term "infertility" to read other women's experiences with specific treatments.
