I'm sorry that you and your husband have been through so much in the past year. A laparoscopy is a rather minimally invasive procedure-- however, it is entirely up to your husband to decide whether the hernia is bothering him enough to want to go through this again.
Laparoscopy is done with very small tools and a tiny camera in order to minimize bleeding and scarring-- and also shortens recovery time.
Complications include:
Infection
Bleeding
Damage to blood vessels or organs
Problems related to anesthesia
The need for open surgery rather than laparoscopic surgery
He should avoid heavy lifting immediately after the procedure but should be able to resume regular activity within a week.
