The communicability period (or period of time in which the person infected can infect or transmit infection to other people) for many STDs (including gonorrhea and HSV1) can extend for a long period of time if left untreated, as the discharge associated with gonorrhea would be infectious to another person (that comes into direct contact with the discharge). In regards to HSV1, instead of discharge associated with gonorrhea, HSV1 would be transmitted from lesions.
There is no cure for herpes, but antiviral medications can help the virus become dormant and less likely to be contagious to another person. Gonorrhea can be cured with antibiotics, and therefore once treatment is successful, can not be transmitted to another person.
